Inspiration for early Looney Tunes?
An odd film, one of Linder's romantic comedies, mostly flirting rather than romance (but exceptional photography).
Then at 14:30, Max suddenly goes completely screwball, like a prototype for early Daffy Duck/Bugs Bunny: he pesters people, gets the best of them, then merrily and gracefully dances away. So, in the end it's hilarious but, unfortunately, takes too long to set the joke up.
Still, he is so much fun to watch in this that I just can't get enough: a human toon! It's easy to see Chaplin's influence on Looney Toons, so perhaps the Linder-Looney Toons connection is through Chaplin (who was a big fan of Linder)? But I have never seen Chaplin as frenetically wacky as Linder is here. This is closer to Marx Bros turf. Too bad there wasn't more!
